Sketch for new refectory design

RUBENGERA REFECTORY PROJECT

The first part of the Rubengera masterplan is underway with the new refectory and kitchens the first buildings to start on site. Thanks to architect volunteers Tim and Henry who have been out to Rwanda earlier this year to help drive the project forward.

NEW GENERATION WORKSHOP

Thanks to FCBS and Maxfordham for taking part in an initial design workshop with Diuedonne from New Generation who is visiting the UK from Burundi.

We look forward to progressing strategic design to move the street children charity's facilities to a new site in Bujumbura.

ST MULUMBA TEACHER'S HOUSE PUBLISHED IN AJ

 

SEPTEMBER 2016

  

The teacher's house designed and contructed in collaboration HYT Uganda, has been published in the Archtitect's Journal. The small rural dwelling for staff at St Mulumba Primary school, built out of Interlocking Stabilised Soil Blocks has received positive feedback from the first inhabitants and set a precedent for future models which HYT have gone on to adapt at ther sites. PHASE 2 OF LAKE BUNYONYI DORMITORY COMPLETE!

 

AUGUST 2016

 

Three volunteers from Buro Happold and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios have done a superb job finishing up the second phase of the two-storey dormitory at Lake Bunyonyi Community school. New classrooms have been completed in the lower ground of the building with the boys dormitory area on the first floor. Well done to Deborah Smith, Roland Vink and Nathan Ovens for you fantastic efforts.

BURUNDI CRISIS

 

Our thoughts are with our Burundian friends and collaborators during this difficult time.  May everyone stay safe as we hope for an imminent end to the violence and that peace may quickly ensue. There are many campaigns aiding victims of the political unrest, if you wish to offer your support to displaced Burundian refugees here is a suggestion

ST MULUMBA TEACHER’S HOUSE ON SITE

We are celebrating 10 years since we set up the Foundation in honour of Richard Feilden and what has been a fruitful decade it has been! DIEUDONNE FROM NEW GENERATION (BURUNDI) SPEAKS AT FCBS LONDON

Thank you to Dieudonne, founder of New Generation, for sharing his story during a charismatic presentation of New Generation’s work and achievements. In particular, special guests Innocent and Eric, both former street children in Bujumbura, shared their experience as finalists in the Street Child World Cup in Brazil.

Floods cut through Kilembe for the third consecutive year

PROJECT RESEARCH TRIP TO UGANDA

MAY 2015

 

RFF Project facilitator Freya returned to Uganda to follow up on potential leads to collaborate with HYT Uganda on an ISSB building in Kamuli district, and visits the flood-hit mining town of Kilembe in Kasese district to meet with stakeholders about the possibility to rebuild a destroyed primary school.
